Okaeri LA - The First Queer Obon
“Okaeri’s inaugural Queer O-bon is a community festival that gathers our Nikkei LGBTQ+ community to remember our queer ancestors through ceremony and dance! O-bon is rooted in a Buddhist sutra about a monk who sought to free his mother from the realm of suffering. Around 1,400 years ago, this sutra inspired Buddhist monks in medieval Japan to start a new ritual tradition. The tradition transformed across time and continents into a Nikkei summer gathering to honor and reflect on our lost loved ones and our joyful, diverse communities.

“Forecast Journal is a bi-annual, tangible, limited-edition experience. This hybrid literary, art, and academic journal is uniquely wide-ranging in genre, offering readers unexpected research approaches and experimental perspectives. Visual artists develop original ideas directly responding to each piece of writing; these ideas are then produced with Forecast, an art collective utilizing exclusively analog formats—still and motion film, writing, fine art, and performance. Our mission is to support artists with continuous, unlimited resources and approaches to idea-making, in order to augur collaborative, wise futures that inspire a global public.”

Made in addition to digital images. An entire photo session on film is possible, please inquire if you’re interested. You keep the negatives!
💸 There is a $50 security deposit due upon booking. The security deposit will be taken off of the total of your session.
🧾 I will send your invoice along with proofs of your images. Final images are released once the invoice is paid.
⏰ Our time is valuable, so our session will begin at the time we agree on. Please do not be late.
